Crystal SPring Deli

Since the early 1900’s the Corner of Crystal Spring Ave and 22nd street in Roanoke, Virginia has been a busy place with a few shops, a family owned grocery store and pharmacy. The grocery store was established in 1937 and served the neighborhood for over 80 years. Lipe’s pharmacy was the quintessential pharmacy of its era with a soda fountain and lunch counter that was famous for their pimento cheese sandwiches. Having grown up on Crystal Spring Ave. I was sad when the pharmacy and grocer closed but to my delight, Tinnell’s Finer Foods was transformed into the Crystal Spring Deli and the pharmacy into a top-notch restaurant. The deli serves wonderful lunch items and has an amazing wine selection and specialty gift items.
